Website speed and SEO: the checks that come before every improvement

Before adding new tools or content, you need a clear measurement of the actual visitor experience.

Speed and performance assessment of a business website

Measurement must come first

A website may seem fast on its developer's computer but load slowly on a mobile phone with an average connection. Decisions should therefore be based on measurements of the most important pages: the homepage, services, contact forms and product pages.

A one-off test is useful for diagnosis, but it is not the whole picture. Real visitor experience and behaviour across devices reveal whether a problem recurs.

The most common bottlenecks

Large, poorly compressed images, JavaScript files that load before the main content and numerous external services can delay the first interaction. A slow backend or unsuitable hosting plan adds delay before the page even begins to appear.

Prioritise what affects the visitor: quickly displaying the main content, keeping the layout stable and responding immediately when a button is pressed.

SEO means the overall experience

Technical speed does not replace useful content, clear titles and good internal linking. The best improvement helps both visitors understand the page and search engines map it.

Repeat the same measurements after every significant change. This lets the business see which intervention worked and avoid changes that merely shift the problem elsewhere.
